They are screen printed. This traditional printing technique uses mesh, ink and a blade or squeegee. A design is imposed onto the mesh, with non-printing areas blocked. Ink is forced into the design by moving the squeegee across the screen and passes through the mesh onto the polyester lanyard material. Traditionally silk was used as a mesh, hence the term 'silk-screen printing'.

It's so the lanyard lies flat on your chest when you wear it around your neck. This isn't always the case and they do flip over, that's why we can print them double-sided.
